Helping children develop healthy habits to care for teeth while they are young is important. Theses habits can set the stage for good oral health care throughout their entire life. They can avoid many problems that result from poor oral health including gum diseases, cavity and tooth decay. Dental hygiene should begin when your child is a baby. It is important to take care of child oral hygiene and one should start cleaning baby’s gum pads even before tooth eruption.  Before teeth come in, use a clean gauze pad or soft cloth over your finger. Dip the gauze in water so it is damp, but not soaking wet. Wipe your child’s teeth and gums gently. When your child’s teeth start coming in, begin to use a small, soft toothbrush around age 18 months.

As per estimate 7 out of 10 children are affected by tooth decay and  approximate 53% children suffer from gum diseases in India. Compared to the developed nations periodontal diseases are more common in developing countries like India due to lack of oral hygiene.
